1 October 2004 – Bright morning with quite a lot of sunshine. Darker clouds rolling in from over the hills about 11.00 bring some rain showers on/off through the afternoon. No wind, medium 28 C. Light waves at the beach. Heavy rain for 3 hours in the evening.

2 October – Bright day, but very cloudy all day. Not much sun. No wind, medium 29 C, and light waves at the beaches.

3 October – Bright morning, with light cloud cover, and some weak sunshine filtering through the clouds. No wind and medium 28 C. Light waves at the beaches. Becoming sunnier in the afternoon.

Kata Beach – 3 October 2004 (about 12.30)

4 October – Lots of overnight rain, lasting until early morning. From 08.00 a bright, calm morning. Mostly cloudy, medium 28 C. Becoming cloudier by 13.00 more cloud and some light rain by late afternoon. Not a very nice day.

5 October – Beautiful sunny morning, with blue skies and a warm 30 C. Light waves at the beach. Clouding over in the afternoon, but still quite sunny.

6 October – Lots of overnight rain. At 06.30 it was a bright sunny morning, with light clouds. Dark clouds rolled in from over the sea about 09.30, bringing persistent light rain. Cool 27 C. Rain stopped by 11.30, and the sky brightened bringing some weak sunshine for the rest of the afternoon. No wind, temperature rise to 29 C. Light waves at the beaches.

7 October – Very dull overcast day, with persistent light rain all day until 16.00. No wind, and cool 26 C. Becoming rougher at the beach. Not a very nice day, worst we have had for a long time.

8 October – Persistent rain continues overnight, and into the late morning. More heavy rain in the afternoon. Dull and overcast, quite windy at times. Sea all churned up and the water is a muddy colour. Really quite ugly. One fool swimming beyond the surf line. !!

9 October – Very dull, overcast day. Rain all day. Morning was very windy, with light rain. Afternoon had no wind but very heavy rain all afternoon. Cool 26 C. Many roads in central Patong severely flooded, with many vehicles broken down causing traffic gridlock. Floodwater retreated rapidly after the rain stopped late evening.

10 October - Early morning started cloudy, but the day brightened up with weak sunshine in the morning, and stronger sunshine in the afternoon. Warm 20 C. Light winds. Medium waves at the beach. Always dark clouds hanging about on the horizon, but no rain…. so far

Patong Beach – 10 October 2004 (clean-up after the flood)

11 October 2004 – Bright morning, with mixed sun & clouds. Sunshine strong at times. Nice calm day. Afternoon even better with lots of blue sky and strong sunshine. Warm 29 C. Quite calm at the beaches. Very pleasant day.

Karon Beach – 11 October 2004 (a rare calm day)

12 October – Another very pleasant morning. Very calm, mixed sun and clouds, but mostly patches of blue sky and quite a lot of strong sunshine. About 11.30 some dark clouds raced in from the sea and by 12.15 we had a very heavy rain shower for about an hour. Brightened up again with some sunny spells through the afternoon, but some light rain by late afternoon & evening.

13 October – Bright morning with mixed clouds and sun. Becoming duller by 11.30, leading to light rain, then heavy rain by 12.30. Heavy rain until 14.00, then strong sunshine, then more light rain from 17.00. Medium 29 C. Calmer at the beaches. Funny old day, but that’s rainy season weather…..

14 October – Another bright sunny morning, with blue skies over the beach & sea. But… dark clouds hanging over the hills, about 400m from the beach line. As expected, the clouds wandered 200 m west about 12.00 and dropped a lot of rain for an hour before retreating. I took a photo over Karon beach to show this feature. Then from 13.00 a bright sunny afternoon, with mostly blue skies. Warm 29 C. Calm at the beaches.

15 October – Heavy overnight rain. Daybreak (06.30) brought a bright sunny day, with a few scattered light clouds. Warm 29 C. Quite calm at the beaches.

16 October – Bright sunny day, with some light clouds in the sky. Warm 29 C. Calm at the beaches. Very nice day.

17 October – The good weather continues. Bright sunny day. Calm at the beaches. Warm 29 C.

Kata Beach – 17 October 2004 (early morning)

18 October – Another nice bright sunny day. Some light clouds from time to time, but mostly sunny. Warm 29 C. Calm at the beaches. No wind. Very nice weather for mid October.

19 October – Another bright sunny day. Some light clouds and a haze over the sea. A few spots of rain in the daytime, some light rain later in the evening. Very calm at the beach, even have a few boars at anchor in Patong Bay. Warm 29 C.

Patong Beach – 19 October 2004

20 October – Bright day. Lots of sun, some haze. Warm 29 C, calm at the beaches. Heavy rain for an hour about 19.00 (evening).

21 - 24 October – Bright days. Lots of sun, some haze over the sea. Very warm 30 - 31 C, very calm at the beaches.

25 October – Bright sunny morning. Hot 31 – 32 C. Calm at the beach. Some darker clouds over the hills later in the afternoon bringing the threat of rain, but the rain kept away.

26 October – The good weather continues. I’m almost tempted to declare that the dry season has arrived a month early, but we could still have a lot more rain to come over the next 3 weeks. Very hot 32 C. Very calm at the beaches.

27 October – Bright day, some light cloud cover. Weak sunshine. Very hot 32 C. Very calm, no wind.

28 October – The very settled, good weather continues. Bright sunny day, few light clouds in the blue sky. No wind, hot 32 C. Very calm at all the beaches.

29 October – Bright morning, becoming a little cloudy in the afternoon. Warm 31 C. Calm.

30 October – Early morning started bright, but darker clouds and thunder rolled in quickly about 11.00 bring heavy rain for 10 minutes. Rolled away quickly, leaving a medium cloud cover and weak sunshine. Medium 30 C.

31 October - Bright sunny day, light haze, no wind, very calm. Warm 31 C. Heavy rain shower at 17.00 for about 15 minutes.
